My Experience with the JJ Smith 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse: Advice, What I Loved + FAQ's

For the past 10 days I ate NOTHING solid and it was the most challenging thing I've ever done. To be honest, I haven't felt this accomplished since back in 2014 when I lost 50 lbs. Was I starving myself? Absolutely not. I had been feeling sick every time I ate for the past few weeks and I had a lack of an appetite, so I figured I would try a cleanse to kind of hit a restart. After much research and asking my IG fam I went along with the 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse by JJ Smith

It was amazing! I thought that I would be extremely fatigued, hungry all the time, and extremely irritable. Boy was I wrong! I actually had an extremely heightened energy and I remained full from the smoothies and drinking all of my water. I drank 3 smoothies a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In between the smoothies I strived to drink a gallon of water a day, but most of the time I never surpassed 6 bottles. I drank Yogi detox tea everyday, which REALLY cleans you out and I also drank ginger tea every now and then. I snacked on fruits, boiled eggs, and peanuts. I'd recommend to keep the snacking to a minimum. Snack when hungry, not when you're bored. 

Biggest piece of advice? Mentally prepare yourself. This is not something you can jump into and think you'll just be ok. Prepare your mind and body to be stronger than any temptation that may cross your mind in the 10 days. Also, the key to this is to cleanse your body and continue to eat healthy post-cleanse. If all you're focused on throughout the 10 days is that big meaty piece of steak you're going to eat when it's over, you're missing the point. Prepare your mind and everything else will follow. 

I lost a total of 9lbs, which was amazing. The hard part will be to keep it off and keep losing an average of 2lbs per week. I'm now down to a number I haven't seen in years and I'll be at the goal I wish to maintain at by the end of summer at the rate I'm going. I'll share numbers when I hit it, I'm trying not to be too reliant on the scale, but on my progress physically.  

Besides weight loss my body feels so energized, my skin has a glow that I've never seen before and my waist lost 3 inches. OKUR! 29 inch waist, I'm not coming to play with y'all this summer, haha! 

I received so many DM's asking questions about how it was so I figured a FAQ format would work best. Here are the main questions I received below, I hope it answers everything and even inspires one of you to challenge yourself and try it. 

Did you workout? 

Yes, I worked out at least 5 out of the 10 days. I thought I they would be short workouts, but they were regular. I still did the same amount of cardio, weights, etc. I was fine. 

Did you eat at all or just juice? 

No I didn't eat at all. I just drank smoothies. The nutritional value of smoothies is better than juicing because a lot of times juicing takes out a lot of nutrients that a smoothie has. Below is an example of one of the smoothies. Everyday is a different recipe.

Did you buy the smoothies or make them?

I made every single smoothie at home with my Nutribullet.

About how much money did you spend?

For the first 5 days I spent $28 and for the last 5 $40, which was cheap I thought. Buying frozen fruit saved a lot of money, fresh fruit is more expensive and goes bad faster. I usually prefer fresh fruit, but for something like this the frozen fruit was more convenient. 

What was the hardest part? 

Going to social events was so hard for me. There was a happy hour in the office I couldn't partake in, July 4th I was at a BBQ, I went to a lounge and drank just water and lemon while everyone around me gulped down fruity summer drinks. But, to be honest it showed me how much I let food/ alcohol consume my social life and now I'm going to work towards changing that.

Do you have any tips?

Mentally prepare and go into it knowing that you're leaving unhealthy ways behind. Or if you're someone like me who already eats pretty clean, but just wants to try something new, if you thought your body felt clean before this cleanse will unlock an entire new level of clean. After it I've decided to also cut dairy out of my diet in addition to meat that I stopped eating back in November. 

Did you crave food?

Of course I did. Smells were actually so alarming. I would pass a pizza place and it would smell like the best pizza on Earth, same with bakeries. But, the willpower to overcome that is what fueled me to reach the end of the cleanse. And, when it was over I was so pleased with my results that I didn't even want those things. 

Is the book long?

To be completely honest I didn't read the entire book, I read the chapter on preparing and I got the recipes and grocery list out of it. Following that, I read a few blurbs on coming off of the cleanse and some detox methods for while I was on it. At the end of the book there are smoothie options to drink after the cleanse and recipes to try.
